undertones.
Traditional uses for Calamus Essential Oil include -
Calamus is reed-like in appearance and its name comes from the Greek word for reed 'Calamos'. It thrives in the muddy regions at the edges of banks on streams and lakes.
It is used widely in perfumery and is highly prized for its warm and woody aroma.
When burnt it is a gently calming and sedating Essential Oil that helps provide a tranquil environment.
Calamus offers support to the Digestive system, and is emmenagogic, stimulating menses. With this in mind this Essential Oil should not be used during pregnancy.
As this Essential Oil is also sedative in its general effect it can lower Blood Pressure and for this reason to should not be used if low blood pressure is already indicated.
This Essential Oil has a strong anti-inflammatory index, making it a great addition to massage blends for tired muscles and stiff joints/arthritic conditions.
Calamus is also indicated as a notable aphrodisiac.
Calamus blends well with -
Kelp, Sea Fennel, Lavender, Cinnamon, Sandalwood and Cedarwood Essential Oils amongst many others.
