Natural Abalone Shells are a beautiful item to have in a room.
Each one has a unique pattern/colouration.
They are convex and have gently rounded/oval shapes, and although they appear quite delicate, they are surprisingly robust - but should always be treated gently and with respect to help prevent damage around the edges.
Abalone Shells are often used as part of a Smudging Ritual.
During Smudging Rituals a Sage Herb Smudge Stick or a Palo Santo Wood Stick is set alight and then blown out, leaving the Smudge or Wood Stick to smoulder gently.
At this point the smouldering Smudge or Wood Stick is placed into the Abalone Shell which can then either be positioned in a central point in the room being cleansed on a heat resistant flat surface or held in one of the hands of the person performing the cleansing Ritual.
The aromatic smoke can then either be wafted around the room using the second hand of the Ritual performer as they carefully hold the Abalone Shell or more traditionally the cleansing smoke can be wafted through the room using a Smudging Feather.
When the Ritual is complete, the items used can be left to cool on a heat resistant, flat surface, and when completely cool the shell can be wiped gently clean, ready to be displayed until its next use.
