Verbena and Vervain Index

Welcome to the 'Wait, which one is which?' section of the Mantra Aromatherapy Website!

At Mantra we are often asked the difference between Verbena and Vervain and their many varied cultivar's, so i thought this section would finally help put the questions to bed.

Often confused with each other as both belong to the Verbenaceae botanical family, Verbena and Vervain are basically the 'high energy morning person' and the 'zen night owl' of Aromatherapy.

Both items well known for their ability to shift a mood quickly, but both products do it in different ways.

Verbena can be thought of as your zesty wake-up call when your brain is buffering and your get-up-and-go got-up-and-went.  Vervain is more of a racing brain's mute button when you need to relax and centre your mind and body after a particularly busy day.

There are of course a number of cultivars of both basic product, many of which Mantra Aromatherapy are pleased to offer for retail.  Each variant has subtly different qualities but all are universally enjoyed as go-to items that are literally a 'smile in a bottle' when opened and used.  Have fun exploring these delightful items.

I've also included Lemon Balm (Melissa) in this section - even though it is an interloper and actually belongs to the Lamiaceae (Mint) family, it DOES still have a lemony aroma and is the 3rd side of the triangle of confusion that occurs with these products.
